Anniversary - 2003 & Literary Competition
Malayalee Association of Maryland celebrated its First Anniversary on December 13, 2003 at the Banquet Hall of the Bombay Grill Restaurant in Towson, Maryland. Our Chief Guest was NFIA Foundation Chairman and former FOKANA President Dr. Parthasarathi Pillai. Other important guests were the Chief Editor of Janany Publications and former FOKANA President Mr. J. Mathews and FOKANA regional Vice President Mrs. Ann Pillai.

The Masters of Ceremony for the program were Arun (Tony) Henry and Christy Rajan.
The program started with the lighting of the lamp and opening prayer song by Christy Rajan.
At his first "Annual State of the Association Address" Chairman Mr. Thomas P. Antony stated the goals of the association in promoting art, cultural and literary talents in the community. The Chairman pointed out the achievements MAM has had in a span of one year:

1) Being inaugurated by the Deputy Ambassador of India Dr. Alok Prasad.
2) The first Literary Competition in connection with the inauguration on December 12, 2002.
3) Having a website due to the efforts of Mr. Prasad Nair.
4) Holding various art & cultural competitions in connection with the Independence day celebration in August 2003.
5) Support of the Indian Business Community in sponsoring Cash Awards.
6) Creation of a wonderful logo due to the efforts of Shervin Fernandez son of great artist Christopher Fernandez.
7) The successful conduct of the second annual Literary Competition named after founding executive Vice-President the late Mr. Kurikose Nedumpillil.
8) Having as guests eminent government Officials/ renowned leaders like Indian Deputy Ambassador Dr. Alok Prasad, Mr. Sunny Wycliffe, Dr. M.V. Pillai, Dr. Parthasarathi Pillai. Mr. J. Mthews and Joythi Kesavadev Dev son of legendery P. Kesavadev. Also leaders/ writers like Mrs. Ann Pillai, Dilip Paliath and Nina Panaikal.
9) A wonderful group of dedicated co-founding leaders.
The Chairman thanked the co-founding leaders for their hard work. He especially thanked Mr. Sunny Wycliffe for his whole-hearted support of the MAM from day one. The Chairman also thanked Mr. Antony & Mrs. Annie Chemmannor of the Bombay Grill Group of Restaurants for their continuing support.

Chief Guest Dr. Parthasarathi Pillai lauded the goals of MAM and praised them for the courage in forming a new association with a different focus. Dr. Pillai distributed Cash Award and Certificate to the winners of various art and cultural programs.

Mr. J Mathews showered praise on the association for the courageous new approach MAM is taking for a Malayalee Association. Mr Mathews distributed the annual "Kurikose Nedumpillil Memorial" Literary Competition Awards.

Mrs. Ann Pillai detailed the upcoming FOKANA Convention in the summer of 2004.

President Mr. Joseph Pothen emphasized the goals of the association and paid rich tribute to MAM's founding Executive Vice President late Mr. Kuriakose Nedumpillil.

The programs included Rambling (speed talk) by Pearli Babu, Instrumental Music by Prateek Nair, Anita Pothen & Austin Pothen, songs by Christy Rajan, Angela George, Prasad Nair, Antony Abraham & Priyanka Prasad.
Mr. Elias Abraham recited his award winning poem.
Mr. Mohan Mavungal-President of KAIRALI-congratulated MAM on its achievements.
President Joseph Pothen offered the vote of thanks. Indian Nation Anthem was rendered by Antony Abraham and Anita Pothen led American National Anthem.
Christie Fernandez did a wonderful job as the Special Events Manager and presenting the sound system.
Henry P Thomas handled Video production and Leenu Mathew & Christie Fernandez handled camera.
Blesson Lukose, Rajan Mathai, Santhosh Kavanakudy and Peter Pereira handled registration and set up.
