Second Anniversary & Award Show - 2004
Second Anniversary of Malayalee Association of Maryland celebrated on December 18, 2004 at the Banquet Hall of the Bombay Grill Restaurant in Towson, Maryland. Our Chief Guest was Mr. Jacob Roy-the Executive Editor & Administrator of Malayalam Pathram. Other guests were Mr. Dilip Paliath-of the Maryland Governor's Cabinet and Mr. Joyan Kumarakum-the well-known writer.

The Masters of Ceremony for the program were Mr. Prasad Nair and Ms. Aleyssa Blesson-daughter of MAM's Vice-President Blesson Lucose. The program started with the lighting of the lamp by Chief Guest and opening prayer song by Megha Jacob. At his "Annual State of the Association Address" Chairman Mr. Thomas P. Antony stated the goals of the association in promoting art, cultural, scholastic and literary talents in the community and thanked Dr. Pillai for his wonderful support for MAM.

The Chairman pointed out the achievements MAM has had in a span of two years:
1) Being inaugurated by the Deputy Ambassador of India Dr. Alok Prasad.
2) The first Literary Competition in connection with the inauguration on December 12, 2002 with writers from across North America participating with the Hon. Deputy Ambassador of India presenting the awards.
3) The second Literary Competition held in 2003 with writers from across North America participating with Mr. J. Mathews-the former FOKANA president-presenting the awards.
4) The prestige, pride, status and credibility of Having the world-renowned Dr. M. V. Pillai as the Chairman of the Literary Competition-2004.
5) Having a website due to the efforts of Mr. Prasad Nair.
6) Holding various art & cultural competitions in connection with the Independence day celebration in August 2003 and in Dec. 2004. MAM added scholastic competitions like spelling bee and speech in 2004.
7) Promoting the well-known Maryland but widely known artist Christy Fernandes through a variety show at the Howard Community College in July 2004.
8) Support of the Indian Business Community in sponsoring various programs. ASIA NET USA and Bombay Grill Group of Restaurants are prime sponsors.
9) Creation of a wonderful logo due to the efforts of Shervin Fernandez son of great artist Christopher Fernandez.
10) Having as guests eminent government Officials/ renowned leaders/writers like Indian Deputy Ambassador Dr. Alok Prasad, Mr. Sunny Wycliffe, Dr. M.V. Pillai, Dr. Parthasarathi Pillai. Mr. J. Mthews, Mr. Joythi Kesavadev Dev son of legendery P. Kesavadev, Mr. Jacob Roy and Mr. Joyan Kumarakum Also leaders/ writers like Mrs. Ann Pillai, Mr. Dilip Paliath and Mrs. Nina Panaikal.
11) A wonderful group of dedicated co-founding leaders.
The Chairman thanked the co-founding leaders for their hard work. He especially thanked Mr. Sunny Wycliffe for his whole-hearted support of the MAM from day one. The Chairman also thanked Mr. Antony & Mrs. Annie Chemmannor of the Bombay Grill Group of Restaurants for their continuing support.
Chief Guest Mr. Jacob Roy lauded the goals of MAM and praised them for the courage in forming a new association with a different focus. He pledged continued support of Malayalm Pathram in spreading MAM news items. He distributed the Literary Award-2004.
Prominent writers like Raju Mylapra, Abdul Punnayurkulam, Saroga Varghese, Murali J. Nair and Sreelal Vasudevan received the award in peson. The well-know writer Joyan Kumarakun entertained the audience with his sarcastic, witty, humorous but full of points speech.

Writers & Poets like Raju Mylapra, Murali J. Nair, Abdul Punnayurkulam, Saroja Varghese, Sreelal Vasudean and Chacko Bramhakulam took the podium and enlightened the gathering. Their speech & recitation of literary entries kept the audience in awe and made them wonder if this was a Kerala Sahithya Academy Sammelanam.
Saroja Varghese (New York) won the award for collection of short stories ("Poliatha Ponvilake"), S.K. Pillai (Georgia) for his novel ("Spardha") and Dr. Nandakumar Chanayil (New York) for Essay. Sreelal Vasudevan (Maryland), Murali J. Nair (Philadelphia) and Dr. Susheela Ravindranathan (Florida) won awards for poem and Neena Panackal (Philadelphia), Nirmala Thomas (Ontario-Canada) and Raju Mylapra (New York) won for Short Story.
Merit Certificate winners for their literary work for 2004 are Dr. George Marangoly (Japan) for Satire and Abdul Punnayurkulam (Michigan) for Short Story.

Mr. Dilip Paliath presented Certificates to the winners of various art, cultural and Scholastic competitions.

A special award was presented to Ms. Megha Jacob-the rising star of the USA for her wonderful performances all over USA. Chief guest Jacob Roy presented the award.
President Mr. Joseph Pothen recognized our sponsors. He specially thanked sponsors ASIANET-USA and Bombay group for their continuous support. Julie & Lovely Kurikose enlightened the crowd with a wonderful dance performance. Christy Rajan & Karthika Shaji offered melodious songs. Executive Vice-President Sunnichen Karuvelithara offered vote of thanks. US National Anthem was recited by the group led by Anitha Pothen and Indian National Anthem was performed by the group led by Rajan Mathai.
The MCs-Prasad Nair & Alyssa Blesson performed wonderfully adding wit and humor to their presentation. Christy Fernandez was at his usual best handling sound system and camera. Additional camera support was provided by Anita Pothen and Elizabeth Antony. Austin Pothen handled video production. Registeration was well handled by Blesson Luckose and Rajan Mathai. The program ended with a delicious banquet under the able leadership of Ravi -Manager of Bombay Grill Group of Restaurants.
