MAM GLOBAL AWARD SHOW in Kochi - on January 15, 2010

The MAM ?AWARD SHOW? held at the ?Gokulam Park Hotel in Kochi on January 15, 2010 was a huge success. The AWARD SHOW was conducted in Kochi so that the 2009 Gobal Award winners who could not come to USA to receive their AWARDS at the AWARD SHOW conducted in Washington City on November 7-2009 could receive their AWARDS in person. Several MAM GLOBAL AWARD WINNERS are out of USA and were unable to come to receive the AWARD at the function on November 7th in Washington. Visa & other problems prevented them from coming to USA.

The AWARD DAY started with young & beautiful ladies conducting SINGARI Melam and Chenda & Vadya Melam, who ushered the special guests to the award hall in a procession. Chairman Thomas P. Antony declared the AWARD MELA open. Kumari Megha Jacob conducted the US National Anthem. Then the lighting of the lamp took place. Chairman Sri. Thomas P. Antony presided over the function. The Chief Guest was Dr. M. V. Pillai. The Guests included: Dinesh Mani-MLA, Paul Karukappillil, Abdul Hameed IPS, Veteran Journalist K.M. Roy, Madhan Kunnathara-General Secretary of NANMA; James Kulatthungal-President of Cochin KALA BHAVAN, Kecheri Ravi-Secretary of NANMA, Francis Mavelikkara-Script Writer, Zavier Pulpad-Drama Director and Mini Nair & N. P. Balan.

Sri. Shahi Prabhakaran welcomed the Guests. The Keynote speaker praised MAM for promoting Malayalam Sahithyam at the Global Level and bringing the AWARD SHOW to Kerala. He commented the foresight of the MAM founding leaders.

Chairman, at his ?State of the Association Address? noted with pride the GLOBAL FAME? MAM has achieved due to its focus on promoting Malayalam Sahithyam at the GLOBAL LEVEL. He pointed out that not even National Associations have done what MAM has done since its formation in 2002.

Many other speakers including FOKANA President Paul Karukappillil and Cochin Kalabhavan President James Kulathungal showered praise on MAM for its global level achievements. Then the AWARD CEREMONY took place. Dr. M. V. Pillai Presented the AWARDS. The MAM Global Literary Award Panel Chairman Abdul Punayurkulam explained the AWARD SELECTION PROCESS.

2) George Arangassery-Scotland?UK.-First Prize-Short Story
3) Krishnan Kutty-Thodupuzha-Kerala-First Prize-Poem
4) P.G Ramadevi-Kochi-Kerala-2ND Prize-Poem
5) Sasi Muttatthara-Trivandrum-Kerala-3rd Prize-Novel
6) John Samuel-Trivandrum-Kerala-3rd Prize-Short Story
7) Chunakara Ramankutty-Kochi-Kerala-3rd ?Poem

Special AWARDS were presented to:
1) Dr. M. V. Pillai-for his life-long contribution to Malayala Bhasha and Medicine.
2) Edappalli Asokraj-for his 50 years of service in promoting Indian Classical Dance.

Besides, MAM Award Panel Chairman Abdul Punayurkulam received his AWARD for serving as MAM GLOBAL Literary Award Panel Chairman.

After the AWARD SHOW Dr. M. V. Pillai inaugurated the revised MAM LOGO. The Chairman said the revised logo reflects the all American membership nature of MAM. One change is the inclusion of U S Flag. Another change is the addition of ?U. S. A?. Also added was: ESTD 2002.

Then took place the variety entertainments. They included Vocals by Sanu Krishna and Lidy Harilal, songs by Megha Jacob, Dances by all India Artists R.L.V. Ramakrishnan and R. L. Sundaran. Their performances glued people to their seats.

Edappalli Asokraj offered the Vote of Thanks.

A gala banquet followed the program.
