Since our formation in 2002 -true to our mission of promoting artistic, cultural and literary talents in the American PRAVASI Malayalee community- MAM has done lot of things that no other Malayalee Associations has done.

In the AREA OF PROMOTING MALAYALAM SAHITHYAM & MALAYALEE WRITERS:

GLOBAL Literary Awards:

Since 2002 MAM has conducted 4 GLOBAL LITERARY COMPETITIONS and the fifth-2009-Global Competition is just concluded.

These Global Level Competitions are REALLY GLOBAL, attracting entries from around the Globe. This 2009 Competition has lots of entries from Europe and Kerala.

Another special nature of these Literary Awards is the integrity with which the winners are selected. MAM’s goal is to leave the decision as to the winners in the hands writers of proven ability. A 3 member panel from the Malayalaee Writers around the Globe selected to determine the AWARD winners. The 2009 Judging Panel is headed by the famous writer Mr. Abdul Punayurkulam of Michigan. Other Panel Members are Shajan Anithottam fro Chicago and Dr. Nanadakumar Chanayil of New York.

In the area of promoting GLOBAL JOURNALISM:

Global Journalist Award:

In 2009 MAM Instituted-for the FIRST TIME SINCE ITS FORMATION IN 2002-the GLOBAL JOURNALIST AWARD.

This attaracted nomination from eminent journalists around the GLOBE. And the 2009 winner is NO LESS A PERSON than Dr. Krishna Kishore of Asianet.

In the area of promoting our Arts & Culture as well as scholastic & academic talents:

MAM have had various artistic, cultural and scholastic competitions-lasting all day-as part of our AWARD NIGHT. This has attracted wide participation from all age groups. Thus unlike other Associations similar efforts MAM’s is more than a Youth Festival.

Do you know these FACTS?

1) MAM Was inaugurated by the Deputy Ambassador of India Dr. Alok Prasad in 2002.

2) The First Global Literary Competition was held in 2002 with Global Participation.The Hon. Deputy Ambassador of India presenting the awards.

3) The second Global Literary Competition was held in 2003, with Mr. J. Mathews-the former FOKANA president and “JANANI EDITOR” -presenting the awards.

4) The third Global Literary Competition was held in 2004. The prestige, pride, status and credibility of having the world-renowned Dr. M. V. Pillai as the Chairman of the Literary Competition-2004 raised the AWARDS to a new level. Mr. Jacob Roy of Malayalam Pathram Presented the AWARDS.

5) The fourth Global Literary Competition held in 2005 was under the able leadership of Writer Murali J. Nair. The AWARDS were presented by the world famous Indian Ambassador Sri T.P Srinivasan.

6) Held a special Event for the well-known Maryland but widely known artist Christy Fernandes through a variety show at the Howard Community College in July 2004.

7) MAM’s wonderful logo was due to the efforts of Shervin Fernandez son of great artist Christopher Fernandez.

8) The FIRST GLOBAL JOURNALIST was Instituted in 2009.

Malayalee Association of Maryland (MAM) is no longer LIMITED TO MARYLAND

Due to MAM’s GLOBAL AWARDS membership in MAM is no longer LIMITED TO THE STATE OF MARYLAND. Few Eminent Writers from various parts of USA are now MAM members.

Thus MAM is complementing -not competing with -the other associations in the region. MAM’s membership is all American.

MAM is giving more choice to the Community and provides a forum for the development of artistic, cultural and literary talents. Now America has associations celebrating Onam, X'MAS and MAM promoting Cultural, Literary and scholastic talents WORLD-WIDE.

In conclusion- MAM has achieved the GLOBAL STATUS due to our vision & forethought in FOCUSING on areas no other associations has ever dared to touch.
